Yuna McCormack’s Goal Sends Florida State to NCAA Final Four

UPDATE: Mill Valley’s Yuna McCormack delivered a pivotal moment for Florida State as she scored a crucial goal in the NCAA women’s soccer tournament, propelling her team into the Final Four with a commanding 4-1 victory over Ohio State on Friday.

The Seminoles (14-2-4) solidified their position with McCormack’s goal in the 51st minute, which restored Florida State’s two-goal lead just two minutes after Ohio State threatened to close the gap at 2-1. This vital strike not only showcased McCormack’s talent but also underscored the Seminoles’ resilience as they advance to the semifinals.

Florida State now eagerly awaits the winner of the matchup between TCU and Vanderbilt, scheduled for Dec. 5. In the other semifinal, Stanford will take on Duke, who eliminated Washington with a decisive 3-0 win in the quarterfinals.

This tournament has been particularly poignant for Washington, who rallied through the competition following the tragic passing of goalie Mia Hamant, a former standout at Redwood High, earlier this month. Hamant bravely fought Stage 4 kidney cancer, inspiring her teammates and fans alike.

In addition to this exciting soccer news, Larkspur’s Campbell Mohan finished 11th with a score of 16-over 86 at the NCGA Juniors Series event in Pacific Grove. Meanwhile, Belvedere’s William Rende and San Anselmo’s Casey Burnett tied for 16th at 21 over par. In the Northern California Junior Tour Series Holiday Tournament at Del Monte Golf Course, Ross’ Finn Henne ended up in a five-way tie for 39th place with a score of 17-over par.

As the tournament continues, coaches are encouraged to report scores and game details via email to [email protected] or on Twitter at @marinij_sports after games. Any updates received after the typical 8 p.m. deadline will be included the following day.
