Young Mother Found Dead in Crocodile’s Stomach in Aceh

URGENT UPDATE: A tragic incident has unfolded in Simeulue, Aceh, where a young shell collector named Jusmitawati was found dead after being attacked by a crocodile. The harrowing event occurred in the Luan Boya River while she was gathering shellfish. Witnesses reported that after the brutal attack, the crocodile dragged her body to the river’s surface.

Despite desperate attempts by local residents to rescue her using bamboo poles, the crocodile, measuring approximately four meters, fiercely resisted. Less than 24 hours later, the crocodile was captured and brought ashore, where officials made a shocking discovery. Upon cutting open the reptile, they found Jusmitawati’s head, both hands, and pieces of fabric believed to belong to her.

Rasmanudin, the head of the Simeulue Regional Parliament, confirmed the news, stating, “After the crocodile was caught and opened, we found the head, hands, and fabric that is verified to be part of the deceased’s body.” He emphasized that this incident adds to the growing concerns about crocodile attacks in the area but noted that this was the first attack recorded in the Luan River.

Residents are now urged to exercise extreme caution while engaging in activities near the water, particularly in regions known to be crocodile habitats. The local government is expected to take measures to ensure the safety of those living and working near these waters.

The emotional impact of this event reverberates through the community as families are left to grapple with the tragedy. Authorities are investigating the incident further and are expected to enhance safety protocols in the area.

This developing story highlights the urgent need for awareness and preventive measures against wildlife encounters in everyday activities. Further updates will follow as the situation unfolds.
