UPDATE: A new Kung Fu Tea location is set to open in Redwood City, marking a significant development for local boba enthusiasts. Drew Shih, a dedicated father of four girls, is spearheading this venture after facing the daily challenge of satisfying his family’s diverse boba cravings.
After countless drives to nearby cities, Shih and his family decided to take matters into their own hands. They began researching various boba franchises, aiming to bring authentic Taiwanese flavors to their community. “It became sort of an obsession,” Shih stated, emphasizing their commitment to quality and accessibility for all customers.
The soft opening for Kung Fu Tea is scheduled for October 27, with a grand opening celebration planned for November 15. Located at 593 D Woodside Road, this new spot will provide a menu boasting approximately 70 drinks. Options include slushies, espresso drinks, and fruity teas, catering to both traditional tastes and modern preferences.
Shih’s daughters, aged 11 to 19, played a crucial role in taste-testing the menu, ensuring that it meets the family’s high standards. Unique offerings will feature honey oolong and winter melon milk teas, alongside refreshing fruit drinks like rose hip lemonade and lychee punch. For slushy lovers, flavors such as taro and apple pie will be available.
Currently, there is only one other Kung Fu Tea location in the nearby area, located in San Jose, highlighting the demand for quality boba in the Redwood City region. The Shih family aims to fill this gap and create a community hub for boba lovers.
