URGENT UPDATE: The future of the Woodlands Inn and Resort remains uncertain as officials confirm no timeline for reopening. This follows a recent inspection that uncovered significant safety violations, leading to an immediate closure ordered by the township’s building inspector.
On November 25, 2025, PPL Electric Utilities cut power to the popular entertainment venue due to unpaid bills. The abrupt shutdown came just before one of the busiest nights of the year, Thanksgiving Eve, forcing the cancellation of a much-anticipated performance by the band M80 and the annual buffet dinner.
Building inspector Jason Humenanski stated that he discovered numerous “life-safety issues” during his inspection, including open junction boxes and malfunctioning sprinkler heads. “It would be irresponsible to establish a timeline without talking to the other party,” Humenanski remarked, indicating that discussions with the property owner, currently out of the country, are pending.
The venue’s owner, Shree Neelkanth Realty LLC, acquired the property in January 2022 but has not yet addressed the safety concerns outlined by Humenanski. The delay in communication has left many, including local businesses and patrons, in a state of uncertainty.
Local businesses are feeling the impact. The Shogun Japanese Restaurant, a tenant of the Woodlands, expressed regret on social media, urging customers to visit their other locations while they navigate the situation. “We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused,” they wrote, reflecting the broader community’s disappointment.
The closure has not only affected businesses but also personal celebrations. A couple celebrating their engagement faced disruption when they were forced to evacuate after just two days of their seven-night stay.
Additionally, the Swoyersville Sailors mini-football program is scrambling to find a new venue for their annual banquet originally scheduled at the Woodlands. “It’s disappointing, especially during a time of year when it’s already hard to book anything last minute,” a representative lamented.
As the situation develops, nearby venues like the Holiday Inn East Mountain are stepping in to accommodate displaced events. General Manager Jerry Mitchell reported an influx of bookings from the Woodlands and is prepared to assist those affected.
This ongoing situation underscores the urgent need for safety compliance at the Woodlands Inn, leaving many in the community anxious for updates. As the building inspector awaits a meeting with the owner, the fate of this beloved venue hangs in the balance.
Stay tuned for live updates as we continue to monitor this developing story.
