BREAKING: Walter Bernard Ament, aged 93, has passed away on October 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and many talents. Surrounded by family in his daughter’s home, Ament was not just a remarkable individual; he was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend whose life spanned decades of rich experiences.
Born in Bluffton, MN on June 5, 1932, Walter was a man of many skills—encompassing roles as a farmer, miner, logger, fisherman, gardener, refrigeration expert, and cowboy. He was especially known for his vivid storytelling and mentorship, touching the lives of many.
Walter married his best friend and pen pal, Dorothy Blotti, on January 21, 1956. Together, they created a loving family in Morgan Park, MN, where they raised their daughters, Pamella Wallgren and Mary Johnson. His family recalls him as a loving patriarch and a strong community figure.
Ament is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy, and daughter, Judith Anne, along with eight siblings. He is survived by his sister, Mary Alice Otto, granddaughters Emily Wallgren, Kate Johnson, and Anna Johnson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, including his best friend Chuck.
His family extends gratitude to the dedicated hospice team at Essentia Health, especially Brandy, Cindy, and Nate, and to the Care Planning Institute and the drivers from Medspeed.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial on November 7, 2025, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, located at 2410 Morris Thomas Road. Father Anthony Craig will officiate, followed by burial at Oneota Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Duluth Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, honoring Walter’s spirit of giving.
