Victoria West Dominates Kempner with 11-1 Victory in Five Innings

The Victoria West Warriors achieved a commanding 11-1 victory over the Fort Bend Kempner Cougars on March 14, 2024, at Riverside Stadium. This triumph marked West’s second win of the week against Kempner, showcasing their offensive prowess in a game that concluded in just five innings.

The matchup faced a delayed start due to the late arrival of the umpire, but once underway, Victoria West quickly took control. Kempner’s starting pitcher, David Santana, struggled from the outset, throwing 37 pitches in the first inning alone. The Warriors capitalized on this, scoring four runs in the opening frame.

Right fielder Aiden Deleon ignited the offense with a leadoff walk, swiftly stealing second base and advancing to third on a fielding error. He was driven home by catcher Cade Sebby with a one-out RBI single, establishing a 1-0 lead. Designated hitter Hector Hernandez followed with a two-run double, extending the lead to 3-0. The inning concluded with an additional run for West after a passed ball allowed Hernandez to score.

The second inning passed without any scores, but West’s offensive momentum surged in the third. After loading the bases with the first three batters, Kempner was forced to make a pitching change. Left fielder Ethan Guerra was hit by a pitch, bringing in the first run of a seven-run rally. A sacrifice fly by third baseman Carson Bazan and a two-run single by Deleon further widened the gap to 8-0.

In total, the Warriors sent 12 batters to the plate during the third inning, culminating in three additional runs. Fort Bend Kempner managed to score one run in the fourth inning but was retired in order in the fifth, invoking the 10-run rule to end the game.

Victoria West’s offense was efficient, scoring 11 runs on just six hits, aided by four errors from the Kempner team. The Warriors displayed remarkable speed on the basepaths, recording seven stolen bases throughout the game.

Starting pitcher Miles Chandler earned the victory, pitching four innings and allowing only one earned run on three hits while striking out three and walking two. Hernandez led the offensive charge, finishing the game with a 2-for-2 performance, which included a double, four RBIs, and two runs scored. Sebby contributed with a hit in three at-bats, driving in two runs.

The Warriors will next face the Richmond Randle Lions on Tuesday evening at 18:00. The team’s strong performance suggests they are poised for continued success as the season progresses.
