Urgent Traffic Alerts: Major Road Closures in Boulder County

URGENT UPDATE: Multiple road closures and construction projects are impacting travel in Boulder County and Erie from November 1-7. Authorities are urging drivers to plan ahead and expect delays.

The most significant changes are occurring on 28th Street, where improvements for multimodal travel are underway. As a result, the northbound 28th Street and Valmont Road RTD Stop No. 17992 will be temporarily relocated just south of the Valmont intersection. This relocation is expected to last until December 31.

In another critical development, crews have begun work on the 19th Street and Fourmile Canyon Creek underpass project. This phase will involve replacing the bridge over Fourmile Canyon Creek, leading to the closure of northbound 19th Street between Sumac and Upland. Vehicle and RTD services will be detoured via Quince, with the project anticipated to conclude by April 1, 2024.

Additionally, the 63rd Street waterline replacement project is causing significant traffic disruptions. 63rd Street, Andrus, and 62nd Street will be closed from Jay to Valmont, but access for businesses and residents will be maintained. This project is also expected to wrap up by April 1, 2024.

Over on Colo. 7, milling and paving operations are currently in effect, with double-lane closures expected to last through late October. Completion is projected for December 15, with alternating closures occurring between 28th Street and Cherryvale Road from 7 a.m. to midnight on weekdays.

In Boulder County, more disruptions are anticipated as Sugarloaf Road undergoes culvert replacements at Betasso Road. Lane closures will implement a temporary three-way traffic signal, causing travel delays expected to last into November. Access to Betasso Preserve will remain open.

The City of Boulder is also focusing on the ongoing 63rd Street waterline replacement, which will affect traffic until February. Full closure of 63rd Street between Jay Road and Twin Lakes Road will occur through mid-November for culvert replacement.

On Colo. 119, construction aimed at improving safety and mobility is being conducted by CDOT, with completion slated for spring 2027.

In Erie, the Prince Lake Dam rehabilitation project at 111th Street and Flatiron Meadows Boulevard will continue through March 2026, requiring site access via 111th Street. While no lane closures are planned, brief delays may occur when work trucks enter or exit.

Furthermore, lane closures will be implemented on Erie Parkway and Glacier Drive for traffic signal installation through December, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.

Lastly, WCR 1.5 and WCR 3 will experience full closures from now until November 26 for maintenance work, with 24-hour closure restrictions.

Drivers are strongly advised to seek alternate routes and stay updated on traffic conditions during this busy construction period. For more information, residents can check local news outlets or the Boulder County transportation website.
