URGENT UPDATE: Central Pennsylvania is under a significant snow alert until 8 a.m. today. The National Weather Service issued this warning at 3:26 a.m.Northern Clinton, Southern Centre, Northern Lycoming, and several others will experience accumulating wet snow.
This weather event is driven by a compact but potent upper-level disturbance moving east from South-Central PA toward the Southern Poconos. Snow is expected to begin tapering off west of Interstate 99 between 4 and 5 a.m., but will intensify across the Middle Susquehanna Valley and Western Poconos from 5 to 8 a.m.
Snow accumulations could reach between 1 to 2 inches, especially on untreated surfaces, leading to slushy and potentially hazardous driving conditions. Authorities warn that this weather is likely to impact the mid-morning commute for many residents, especially those traveling southeast of a line drawn from Altoona to State College and Williamsport.
Officials emphasize the need for caution on the roads. “Use extra caution if you must travel this morning,” the weather service advises. “Potentially slick roads may lead to accidents. Slow down and allow plenty of stopping distance between you and the vehicle ahead. Avoid braking suddenly.”
Residents are urged to prepare for possible disruptions and to remain vigilant while commuting during this wintry weather event. Stay tuned for further updates as conditions develop.
