UPDATE: Authorities in San Antonio, Texas, have discovered a body “very close” to the home of 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who has been missing since Christmas Eve. The body was found shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, triggering an immediate response from law enforcement and raising urgent questions about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
The discovery occurred in an area with tall grass that had been previously searched. Officials from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI returned to the location, highlighting the ongoing commitment to finding Olmos, who was last seen on the morning of December 24. Sheriff Javier Salazar noted that the body was located about 100 yards from Olmos’ residence, wearing clothing consistent with her last known outfit.
“This is certainly not the outcome we were hoping for,” Sheriff Salazar stated, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. As of now, the body has not been officially identified and there is no confirmed cause of death. Sheriff Salazar indicated that foul play is not currently suspected.
Earlier on Tuesday, authorities released a dash cam video showing a person who may match Olmos’ description walking along the road at night. This individual was reportedly wearing a baby-blue and black hoodie, baby-blue pajama bottoms, and white shoes—the same attire Olmos was last seen in, according to social media posts from the sheriff’s department.
In a previous statement, the sheriff’s office noted that Olmos left her home on foot, taking only her car keys and possibly her driver’s license. Investigators are reviewing footage from a neighbor’s doorbell camera that captured a person believed to be Olmos searching her car for an unknown item.
Sheriff Salazar revealed that investigators have “indications of suicidal ideations from this young lady in the past,” along with “some depression issues.” However, he did not confirm any direct connection between these factors and her disappearance. “What young person doesn’t have bouts of depression at a certain point?” Salazar remarked, stressing the need to explore all possibilities, from willful disappearance to potential self-harm or abduction.
The case has garnered significant attention as the community continues to rally around the search for Olmos. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as they piece together the events leading up to her disappearance and the tragic discovery.
As this investigation unfolds, the sheriff’s department is committed to transparency and will provide updates as more information becomes available. The urgency of this case resonates deeply within the community, highlighting the emotional impact of missing youth and the critical need for support systems.
Stay tuned for more updates as officials continue to investigate this heartbreaking case.
