Urgent Roadwork Alert: Mid-Missouri Traffic Disruptions Dec. 1-7

URGENT UPDATE: Mid-Missouri motorists are facing significant travel disruptions due to extensive roadwork scheduled from December 1 to 7, 2023. Authorities warn of lane closures and delays across several counties as crews engage in vital infrastructure improvements, including culvert replacements and bridge rehabilitations.

Drivers are urged to use caution in work zones, particularly on Boone County’s Route 124 and Callaway County’s Routes E and J, where traffic will be controlled by flaggers, resulting in single-lane conditions. In Columbia, improvements to Route TT are ongoing and are expected to wrap up by the end of November.

KEY IMPACTS: Commuters using I-70 should prepare for long-term disruptions due to ongoing construction as part of the “Improve I-70 Program,” which is anticipated to continue until 2027. In Cole County, upgrades to pedestrian facilities along U.S. Route 50 will lead to right-turn lane closures from Broadway, Jefferson, and Monroe streets between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Additionally, drivers will face reroutes on U.S. Route 63 at the Route AC (Grindstone Parkway) interchange, as Lenoir Street remains closed. This work is expected to continue until early December 2025. Maintenance and culvert replacements will also impose daily lane restrictions in Laclede, Maries, and Morgan counties, leading to expected single-lane travel and delays.

Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and allow extra time for travel during this period. The Missouri Department of Transportation emphasizes the importance of safety in these work zones as crews work diligently to improve infrastructure.
