UPDATE: A devastating hit-and-run in Marion County has left one man dead and another seriously injured. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is urgently seeking the suspect involved in this tragic incident that occurred around 7:30 p.m. last night on SW 27 Circle, just north of SW 137 Loop.
According to reports, the two victims, both from Ocala, were attending to a disabled dump truck when a gray or silver Jeep Cherokee veered off course and struck them. The force of the collision propelled one of the men into an unoccupied SUV parked next to the dump truck.
Initial reports indicate that the driver of the Jeep stopped briefly after the collision but fled the scene, heading south on SW 27 Circle before turning onto SW 137 Loop. The injured were rushed to the hospital, but tragically, a 76-year-old man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The second victim, a 45-year-old man, remains in serious condition.
Authorities are actively searching for the hit-and-run vehicle, which likely sustained damage to its right front and grille during the incident.
