Urgent: Man Airlifted After Snowmobile Crash on Bailey Lake

UPDATE: A man was urgently airlifted to Essentia Health-Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth early this morning following a serious snowmobile crash on Bailey Lake. The Virginia Police Department responded to a disturbance report at approximately 2:18 a.m., leading to a shocking discovery.

Witnesses reported seeing a bright light and hearing what sounded like a generator running, prompting police to investigate. Upon arrival, officers found a 41-year-old man lying approximately 20 feet away from a running snowmobile. Authorities determined he had crashed off the shoreline, west of the Laurentian Manor Apartments.

Police described the man as “slow to respond” when they arrived at the scene. Emergency medical personnel from the Virginia Fire/Ambulance Department transported him to Essentia Health-Virginia before he was airlifted to Duluth for further treatment. As of this morning, his condition remains unknown, and police have not released his name.
