Urgent: LIRR Service Suspensions This Weekend – Major Changes Ahead

UPDATE: Major service suspensions are in effect for the Long Island Rail Road this weekend, impacting commuters across key branches. Starting early Saturday morning and lasting until 2:15 a.m. on Monday, these changes are due to critical signal upgrade work being conducted by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

For those using the Port Jefferson Branch, service is completely suspended between Mineola and Huntington. Hourly shuttle buses will operate to connect passengers at key stops, including Hicksville, Syosset, and Cold Spring Harbor. Furthermore, there will be no LIRR service at Carle Place and Westbury. Commuters are advised to utilize the NICE buses n22, n24, or n35, which will honor LIRR tickets at no extra charge.

On the Ronkonkoma Branch, train frequency will be reduced, with services running every two hours between Penn Station and Ronkonkoma, rerouted via the south shore. Additionally, trains will make directional changes between the Jamaica and Farmingdale stations without stopping, significantly affecting travel times. Passengers should anticipate an extra 50 minutes of travel time to reach their destinations.

Service will also be unavailable at Bethpage, with commuters encouraged to board trains at either the Farmingdale or Seaford stations instead.

This disruption affects thousands of weekend travelers in the region, as families and individuals plan their outings. The MTA strongly recommends checking their official website for live updates and further details on service changes.

Stay informed and plan your travels accordingly as these service adjustments unfold.
