UPDATE: Coast Guard Housing Lots Nearly Sold; New Homes Rising in Nahant

URGENT UPDATE: In a significant development for Nahant, all but one lot on the Coast Guard Housing property have been sold, with new homes currently under construction. Town Administrator Alison Nieto confirmed that the 12th lot remains occupied, leading to ongoing litigation with the tenant.

New construction is already underway on Castle Road, where one house is being built, and two others on Goddard Drive have secured building permits. “There’s been construction activity, which is good,” Nieto stated earlier today.

Residents have raised concerns about the size of the new house on Castle Road, questioning if it complies with zoning regulations. Nieto reassured the community, saying, “The correct building procedures were followed, and the correct building permits have been pulled.” She noted that the perception of the house being too large is likely due to adjacent vacant lots.

The Town Administrator highlighted the positive implications of this project, stating, “I’m looking forward to seeing new construction take place and having families move into the area. Then, the Town will see some revenue growth from that.”

In a financial update, Nieto disclosed that the Town has successfully paid off all loans associated with the project, totaling $1.8 million for the property purchase and $1.3 million for demolition costs. “The loans were paid off at the beginning of this fiscal year,” she confirmed.

Construction activities have necessitated the closure of the sidewalk on Castle Road. “Once the houses on Castle Road were constructed, then the sidewalk would be rebuilt,” Nieto explained. An engineering plan is already in place to address this.

The ongoing developments signal a transformative period for Nahant, promising new homes and potential growth for the community. Residents and stakeholders are urged to stay informed as this project continues to evolve.
