UPDATE: A turtle has tragically died following an animal cruelty incident at the Valencia Town Center in Santa Clarita, California, earlier today. The incident, which occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m., has prompted an active investigation by local authorities.
According to officials from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, deputies responded to reports of a man disturbing turtles in a pond located in The Patios, an outdoor shopping area within the mall. Eyewitness accounts and security footage revealed that a 34-year-old transient from Van Nuys was seen grabbing one of the turtles and slamming it onto the ground.
The injured turtle was immediately transported to an emergency veterinary hospital by Los Angeles County Animal Care & Control for evaluation and treatment.
