Texas Launches Urgent Prayer Initiative Against Human Trafficking

UPDATE: First Lady Cecilia Abbott has just launched an urgent initiative to combat human trafficking in Texas. The Governor’s Response Against Child Exploitation (GRACE) initiative’s sixth annual Week of Prayer to End Human Trafficking will take place from January 5 through January 11, 2025, coinciding with Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

Abbott is rallying Texans to unite against this critical issue, urging the faith-based community to engage in prayer and support for survivors. In her official announcement, she stated, “Nothing is stronger than Texans standing together through prayer and action.” This collective effort seeks to enhance awareness and understanding of human trafficking, empowering individuals to take meaningful action.

The initiative features daily themes focusing on exposure of exploiters, community awareness, and trauma-informed support for victims. Each day will have specific prayer intentions aimed at fostering community resolve and healing for those affected by exploitation.

In a powerful statement, Audrey O’Neill, Commissioner of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), along with Blanca Lance, DFPS Director of Human Trafficking, emphasized the need for widespread participation. They have also released the 2026 Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness Month guide, designed to educate and empower Texans in the fight against this pressing issue.

As part of this initiative, Texans are encouraged to dedicate time each day to join in prayer and reflection, strengthening the community’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and disrupting the cycle of trafficking. The goal is not just to provide comfort but to inspire action that leads to justice and healing.

Officials believe that these community-driven prayers and actions can significantly impact the lives of trafficking victims and contribute to the broader fight against this heinous crime. With a firm belief in the power of solidarity, Texas stands ready to lead the charge against human trafficking, extending efforts beyond prayer and into actionable support for those in need.

As the week approaches, Texans are called to engage with this initiative, not only in prayer but through community participation and awareness efforts. The stakes are high, and the need for urgent action has never been more critical. Stay tuned for updates as Texas takes bold steps in the fight against human trafficking.
