Tech YouTuber Uses $4,999 Robot Snow Blower During Storm

UPDATE: A tech YouTuber is turning heads as he relaxes inside while his $4,999 autonomous snow blower clears his driveway during the ongoing Winter Storm Fern. Tom Moloughney, a certified tech reviewer, shared live updates from his home in New Jersey, showcasing the capabilities of the Yarbo Snow Blower as it battles heavy snowfall.

As over 250 million Americans face the aftermath of this weekend’s brutal storm, Moloughney documented his experience on X, revealing that the autonomous machine efficiently handled his 6,000 sq. ft. driveway. “I’m inside sipping a coffee while it’s doing its job,” he tweeted, while the robot cleared snow up to 12 inches deep.

Winter Storm Fern has coated parts of New Jersey with about six inches of snow in just 24 hours, according to the National Weather Service. This was the perfect opportunity for Moloughney to put the Yarbo Snow Blower to the test. The 230-pound robot can throw snow up to 40 feet and charges fully in just 90 minutes.

In a series of videos, viewers watched the Wi-Fi-connected snow blower tackle the snowy conditions, clearing paths from the driveway, walkway, and even the area in front of his garage. When the battery ran low, the robot autonomously returned to its charging pad, recharging before heading back out into the freezing temperatures.

“This is going to be a great test,” Moloughney stated in his updates, noting that the robot would continue to operate until the driveway was completely cleared. “I’ll then send it out again until the snow stops.”

However, the robot’s performance wasn’t without challenges. Moloughney reported that the device required substantial digital setup before the storm and struggled with GPS connectivity in certain areas. During a previous snow event, hail had created a layer of ice that the robot couldn’t remove, showcasing that even advanced technology has its limitations.

Despite these hiccups, Moloughney praised the robot’s performance, calling it “kicking ass” as it worked through the night until the last flakes fell. The impressive demonstration has sparked interest among tech enthusiasts and everyday homeowners alike, highlighting the potential of robotics in everyday tasks.

As the storm continues to impact millions across the country, Moloughney’s experience raises questions about the future of snow removal technology. Will more homeowners invest in such devices to ease the burden of winter weather?
