URGENT UPDATE: The Stewartville community is uniting in the wake of a tragic shooting that has left two families devastated. As of Sunday evening, December 14, 2025, a GoFundMe initiated by the Stewartville Wrestling Booster Club has raised over $25,000, surpassing its initial goal of $22,000.
The fundraiser was launched shortly after a shooting occurred on Friday morning, December 12, around 5 a.m. in the parking lot of Stewartville High School. An adult male was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a student remains critically injured. The names and ages of those involved have not yet been disclosed.
In a heartfelt statement posted on Facebook, the Stewartville Wrestling Booster Club expressed their sorrow, saying, “Our hearts are with the victims, their families, friends, coaches, and everyone affected.” They emphasized the community’s values of strength and unity, urging residents to support one another during this difficult time.
Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson confirmed that the incident happened just before the school’s wrestling team was set to leave for a tournament in Grand Forks, North Dakota. “We don’t know anything that led up to this at all, at this point,” Torgerson stated during a press conference on Friday. A follow-up press conference is anticipated on Monday, offering more details about the tragic event.
In addition to the GoFundMe, donations can be made in person at any Eagle Rock Bank branch by referencing the “Stewartville Wrestling Benefit Account.” Local business Full Court Custom Apparel Inc. is also contributing by donating 100% of shirt sales proceeds to the victims’ families.
The response from the wrestling community has been overwhelming, with competing programs such as Dover-Eyota and Plainview-Elgin-Millville donating hundreds of dollars. Notably, the Clash National Wrestling Duals contributed $1,000 to support the affected families.
As the community grapples with this horrific tragedy, the outpouring of support highlights the strength and resilience of Stewartville’s residents. The funds raised will directly assist the families impacted by the shooting, aiding them in navigating this unimaginable crisis.
