Sharon Hill Man Arrested for Gun and Drug Charges in Folcroft

UPDATE: A 30-year-old man from Sharon Hill was arrested on serious gun and drug charges following a swift police intervention in Folcroft earlier today. Authorities confirm that Mark Baxter faces multiple charges, including possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of controlled substances, thanks to the sharp eye of a local officer.

Around 10 a.m. in the 1400 block of Hook Road, Folcroft Officer Nicholas Matty observed a suspicious blue Toyota Prius blocking traffic at a green light. The situation escalated when Officer Matty noticed Baxter exiting the vehicle and disposing of an item in a nearby trash can. The officer’s instincts led to a critical discovery that would later secure Baxter’s arrest.

“This arrest is a prime example of the outstanding vigilance and proactive policing that defines the Folcroft Police Department,” stated Cpl. Thomas Kesser. The officer’s decisive action was crucial in ensuring community safety.

Upon approaching the Prius, Officer Matty detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle. When questioned, Baxter denied having any marijuana, attributing the smell to his earlier use. However, he did not consent to a search of the car, prompting Matty to request that he exit the vehicle. Baxter initially resisted but eventually complied.

While being patted down, Baxter reportedly mentioned, “wait, there may be weed in here,” as he unzipped a satchel. Inside, Officer Matty discovered a clear bag containing a total of 44 oxycodone pills, along with suspected MDMA.

Further investigation revealed a loaded pink-and-silver SCCY 9 mm handgun in the trash can near the bus stop, complete with one round chambered and an additional ten rounds in the magazine. Police also recovered $423 from Baxter, alongside multiple packages of suspected marijuana found in his jacket and within the Prius.

Baxter was taken into custody and later remanded to county jail after failing to post 10% of his $125,000 bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October 28, before Magisterial District Judge Steven A. Sandone. As of now, no defense attorney has been listed in electronic court records.

This incident underscores the importance of vigilant policing in maintaining community safety and the proactive measures taken by local law enforcement. The Folcroft Police Department’s rapid response highlights the critical role that officers play in identifying and addressing suspicious activities that could endanger public safety.
