UPDATE: The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce is urgently honoring local veterans in its 15th annual “Salute to Patriots” event, taking place at the SCV Senior Center at Bella Vida on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. This event recognizes the ongoing contributions of veterans who continue to serve their community post-military.
Local dignitaries gathered to celebrate six exceptional veterans: Anthony Straight, Vernon Charles Miller, Juan Blanco, Robert Lasher, Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Wells, and Eric White. Notably, the seventh honoree, Camille Applin-Jones, was unable to attend and will receive recognition next year.
The ceremony aims to express gratitude for the veterans’ “unwavering service, profound sacrifice, and steadfast dedication to safeguarding the freedoms we cherish,” stated Di Thompson, the 2025 chair of the board for the SCV Chamber. She emphasized the dual role of these veterans as defenders of the nation and as vital members of the local community.
Community engagement is a key theme. Ivan Volschenk, president and CEO of the SCV Chamber, invited residents to nominate veterans whose contributions often go unrecognized yet significantly enhance the local business landscape. Each veteran honored had a unique story but shared a common goal: to make the SCV community stronger and more vibrant for everyone.
During the ceremony, Emily White expressed her pride in her husband, Eric White, saying that he never expected such an honor but truly deserves it. “He has a servant’s heart,” she remarked. “He goes out of his way to serve everyone he meets.”
Another honoree, Robert Lasher, shared his experience volunteering at the SCV Food Pantry, which has provided him with purpose after the loss of his wife during the pandemic. “It was nice that they were there to help me out and for me to help them out,” Lasher said, highlighting the emotional impact of community service.
Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda reinforced the community’s commitment to supporting veterans. “This community supports our veterans and always has, always will,” he declared. Miranda urged attendees to recognize the challenges veterans face and stressed the importance of treating them with fairness and respect.
As the event unfolded, local leaders shared heartfelt testimonials about each honoree’s contributions, creating an atmosphere of pride and appreciation. The SCV Chamber’s commitment to honoring veterans showcases the importance of community support for those who have served.
As the ceremony concludes, community members are encouraged to continue nominating veterans who may not receive public recognition but have made significant impacts. This call to action fosters a culture of appreciation and acknowledgment for those who dedicate their lives to serving both their country and their community.
