UPDATE: Sacramento’s latest report reveals a significant surge in efforts to combat homelessness, with 2,096 cases managed in just one week. The City’s Incident Management Team (IMT) reported these developments for the period of November 10-16, 2023, reflecting a decisive response to the growing crisis.
During this week, Sacramento received 544 calls to its 311 customer service line, a number that led to an impressive count of cases opened. Notably, this figure exceeds the call volume, as multiple cases can arise from a single call, showcasing the city’s proactive approach. The IMT also reported that 2,466 cases were successfully closed, indicating effective resolution of issues or compliance achieved.
This week, outreach efforts saw 74 individuals enrolled in vital databases connecting them to local shelters and essential resources. Furthermore, 17 individuals found new placements at the City’s Roseville Road campus and the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC), demonstrating tangible progress in housing solutions.
Despite these advancements, there remains a critical issue with capacity. Currently, there are zero Pallet homes and zero trailers available at the Roseville Road campus, while only two spaces remain at the OEC. City-funded shelters are averaging 13 openings, highlighting the urgent need for more resources to accommodate the rising number of individuals in need.
In a concerted effort to address the visible impact of homelessness in the community, Sacramento’s team executed waste removal operations, successfully disposing of a staggering 50,140 pounds of trash. This cleanup initiative underscores the city’s commitment to improving the living conditions for all residents.
Sacramento continues to prioritize transparency in managing the homelessness crisis. The public can access a detailed data dashboard, tracking the IMT’s weekly progress since September 2023, including cumulative figures for outreach, compliance, and cleanup initiatives.
As the situation develops, all eyes will be on Sacramento’s ongoing efforts to expand housing options and resources. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to stay informed as the city navigates this urgent humanitarian challenge.
This situation remains fluid, and further updates are expected as the city works diligently to enhance its response to homelessness.
