Ronald L. Gilbert, 70, Passes Away at Penn State Health

UPDATE: Ronald L. Gilbert, aged 70, tragically passed away on October 14, 2025, at Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center, sparking an outpouring of condolences from the community. Gilbert, a longtime resident of Perry Twp., was known for his vibrant spirit and dedication to his family. His death follows the loss of his beloved wife, Cheryl L. Gilbert, who passed away on October 18, 2010.

Born in Pottsville, Gilbert was the son of Minerva (Yoder) Gilbert and the late Carlson “Mike” Gilbert. He graduated from Blue Mountain High School in 1973 and briefly attended Lincoln Tech. Ronald dedicated much of his career to working as a steelworker at DANA Corporation until his retirement. He later worked at Sheetz, Mack Truck for five years, and most recently served as a greeter at Cabela’s.

Gilbert was a passionate outdoor enthusiast, known for his love of hunting and riding his Harley Davidson. His hobbies also included hiking and spending quality time with family. A devoted sports fan, he cheered for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Dolphins.

He is survived by his son, Todd D. Gilbert, and daughter, Jani L. (Gilbert) Milan, alongside three grandchildren: Connor DuCoin, Chayson Gilbert, and McKinley Gilbert. Additionally, he leaves behind two brothers, Carlson G. “Butch” Gilbert, Jr. and Richard C. Gilbert, as well as three sisters: Carol (Gilbert) Merbah, Sandra (Gilbert) LaScala, and Donna (Gilbert) Dabashinski, all of whom reside in Schuylkill Haven.
