Rob Richardson Seeks Second Term on Frankfort Commission

UPDATE: Rob Richardson is officially running for a second term on the Frankfort Board of Commissioners, emphasizing urgent improvements for the community. In a statement released earlier today, Richardson highlighted his enhanced understanding of city operations and his commitment to fiscal responsibility.

Richardson, who has served for two years, stated, “I have discovered that serving as an elected official has given me better insight into the scope of all city operations.” This insight has driven him to prioritize his community’s needs while adopting a pragmatic approach to governance.

During his first term, Richardson played a pivotal role in ensuring that the city operates within its budget, even generating a surplus through effective fiscal management. “This was a big priority of mine,” he noted, referencing the challenges of identifying new revenue streams while making necessary budget cuts. The city’s recent acquisition of OpenGov is expected to streamline operations and enhance revenue generation.

A key project under Richardson’s leadership is the construction of the Frankfort Fire Department Station 1 on the former Pic-Pac property on West Second Street. This facility will upgrade fire and emergency services, equipping first responders with modern technology and training that will directly benefit local residents.

Looking ahead, Richardson aims to address long-term infrastructure needs, particularly in the Paddocks development, which he believes will significantly boost the city’s revenue as it develops. “This development will increase revenues as it grows over the years,” he remarked.

Reflecting on his time in office, Richardson shared that his commitment goes beyond attending bi-monthly meetings. He has maintained a weekly dialogue with the city manager to discuss operational improvements and growth strategies. “Serving requires research, dedication, and the willingness to learn,” he explained.

With strong ties to the community since moving to Frankfort in 1994, Richardson has an extensive background in law enforcement, having retired as the assistant police chief in 2017. His current role as a law enforcement liaison with the Kentucky Association Chiefs of Police allows him to connect with various communities, sharing insights and strategies for overcoming challenges similar to those faced by Frankfort.

Richardson’s platform for a second term includes vital initiatives such as expanding city sewer systems to encourage economic growth and housing development. He is equally focused on enhancing public safety and ensuring that first responders have the resources necessary to perform their duties effectively.

One of his personal priorities is the establishment of a downtown convention and meeting center, which he believes will stimulate economic growth across the community. With residential housing in short supply, Richardson is actively pursuing development on property zoned for residential use on the west side of Frankfort, emphasizing the need for adequate housing to support the growing workforce.

Richardson stated, “With the increase in employment opportunities, people will need somewhere to live,” highlighting the critical connection between housing and local economic health.

Additionally, he is advocating for riverfront development to boost tourism, which may include plans for a new swimming pool and recreation center to enhance community engagement.

Married for nearly 33 years to Kim, Richardson is a dedicated father to three daughters and a proud dog owner. “It has been a pleasure serving on the Frankfort city commission,” he said, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to represent his community. “I love hearing from the citizens of Frankfort about their needs and concerns.”

As the election approaches, Richardson is eager to continue his work for the people of Frankfort, underscoring the importance of community feedback in shaping local policies.
