UPDATE: The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) has just announced significant year-end parking discounts aimed at boosting holiday shopping in downtown Portland. This initiative is designed to attract more visitors to local businesses during the festive season, highlighting the city’s commitment to supporting its vibrant retail community.
As part of the SmartPark program, PBOT is offering new validation merchants an additional 25 two-hour coupons when they purchase at least 50 coupons. Mayor Keith Wilson stated, “The holiday season is a time for community, connection and celebration. That includes supporting the small businesses that make Portland’s downtown special.” This sentiment underscores the urgency of rallying community support for local shops as the holiday rush approaches.
In a bid to further encourage shopping, PBOT will sponsor free parking on Small Business Saturday, as well as on two weekends throughout December. Retailers interested in joining the program can contact SmartPark, which is additionally offering up to 40% off bulk purchases for those buying 51 or more validations through December 31.
Portland’s SmartPark provides nearly 4,000 parking spaces conveniently located near dining, retail, and cultural venues, making access to local businesses easier than ever. This initiative not only promotes shopping but also aims to enhance seasonal cycling events, reflecting the city’s broader commitment to sustainable transportation options.
