Popular Food Truck The Rambler Closes After 12 Years of Service

UPDATE: The beloved food truck, The Rambler, has officially ceased operations as of October 30, marking the end of an era for food lovers in the Twin Ports. After more than a decade of serving iconic dishes like mahi mahi tacos and bacon-wrapped slaw dogs, this local favorite has rolled its last meal.

A farewell event at The Tasting Room celebrated its legacy, with owner Jonathan Reznick calling the truck “his baby.” The Rambler, a pioneer in the Northland mobile food scene since its launch in 2012, has built a strong reputation over the years, making appearances at major local events across venues such as Cirrus and Bayfront Festival Park.

The decision to close the food truck comes as Midcoast Catering, which was established in 2017, has become the primary focus for the company, accounting for approximately 70% of total sales. The Tasting Room, which opened last fall, has also contributed to the growth of the business, providing a versatile venue for various events.

Throughout the winter months, Midcoast Catering will pivot to offer private and public tasting events, including wine and beer pairings, with kitchen manager Kelsey Auran expressing enthusiasm for customizing menus to fit specific client needs. “Nothing is too silly or too goofy. We’re happy to make it happen,” Auran stated.

The closure of The Rambler leaves a significant gap in the local food truck scene, especially as food truck saturation has increased in the Twin Ports. Auran noted, “It’s wonderful seeing what else has evolved in the food truck scene in Duluth; we feel as though it’s in good hands.”

Memories of the vibrant food truck scene will linger, with Auran reminiscing about her first major event with The Rambler during a Trampled By Turtles concert in 2018. “It was hot and tiring, but looking back, we did that! It’s a great memory,” she reflected.

As for the future of The Rambler itself, the company is undecided on whether to sell the food truck or retain it for potential future use. This closure not only marks the end of a popular dining option but also highlights the evolving landscape of the local food scene.

For food lovers and fans of The Rambler, this farewell is bittersweet. The legacy of The Rambler will not be forgotten as Midcoast Catering and The Tasting Room continue to serve the community, ensuring that the spirit of culinary innovation lives on.
