Phoenix Offers Free Rides on NYE for Safe Celebrations

URGENT UPDATE: As celebrations kick off across Phoenix for New Year’s Eve on December 31, 2025, residents are being urged to prioritize safety with multiple transportation options to ensure a safe ride home.

With alcohol consumption likely during the festivities, Valley Metro has partnered with Coors Light to offer free transportation. Starting at 7 p.m. tonight, all light rail and bus rides will be complimentary, continuing into the early hours of January 1, 2026. This initiative aims to minimize risks on the roads, allowing revelers to celebrate without the worry of driving under the influence.

In addition to public transit, rideshare apps such as Uber and Lyft are also extending their services, offering discounted rides to encourage safe transportation. These platforms have implemented several safety measures, including personalized verification codes for riders and drivers, the option to share ride details with friends or family, and notifications if a driver deviates from the planned route.

Local law enforcement officials are emphasizing the importance of passenger vigilance.

“Verify the driver’s information. Verify the car information, such as make, model, and license plate, before entering the vehicle,”

said Lindsey Fernandez, public information officer for the Tempe Police Department.

Tempe resident Jessica Kuna shared her commitment to safety during New Year’s celebrations. “I usually always ride with a friend,” she explained. “If my husband can’t drive, we opt for Waymo. It’s just not worth the risk of drinking and driving.”

As festivities unfold, the emphasis on safe transportation options is more critical than ever. With numerous ways to get home safely, revelers are encouraged to take advantage of these services.
