November’s Supermoon and Meteor Showers Set to Dazzle Skywatchers

UPDATE: The stunning Full Beaver Moon, the largest and brightest Supermoon of 2025, is set to illuminate the night sky on November 5. Skywatchers across the U.S. are urged to get ready for this breathtaking celestial event that coincides with multiple meteor showers, making November an exceptional month for stargazing.

The Full Beaver Moon will reach its peak at approximately 8:20 a.m. EST, but for the best views, observers should look to the night before or after. This Supermoon promises to be a spectacular sight, casting its glow across the landscape as it reaches its closest point to Earth, known as perigee.

This month brings not just the Supermoon but also the Southern Taurids, peaking on November 5 with active fireballs streaking across the sky. The American Meteorological Society reports that this meteor shower, rich in spectacular fireballs, will be visible through November 20.

Following the Southern Taurids, the Northern Taurids will peak on November 11 and November 12. These meteors are known for their slow-moving and bright appearances, contributing to the vibrant night sky.

The month continues with the highly anticipated Leonid meteor shower, expected to peak on November 16 and 17. With the possibility of seeing up to 10 to 20 meteors per hour, conditions will be ideal as the waning Moon will minimize light interference.

NASA indicates that approximately every 33 years, the Leonids produce a meteor storm, with the last significant event occurring in 2002. While a true meteor storm isn’t expected until 2099, enthusiasts can still expect a vibrant display over these nights.

Earlier in the month, the Orionids meteor shower, which peaked in late October, will remain active until November 7. Stargazers might catch sporadic fireballs during this time, adding to the excitement of November’s skywatching events.

Prepare your cameras and mark your calendars for a month that promises to be filled with awe-inspiring celestial occurrences. Don’t miss the chance to witness the beauty of the night sky, as it offers a rare opportunity to connect with the universe above us.

Stay tuned for more updates, and make sure to share your stargazing experiences with others as this November unfolds into a dazzling spectacle!
