UPDATE: The New York Road Runners (NYRR) just launched exciting festivities in Central Park ahead of the highly anticipated TCS New York City Marathon, set for next weekend. This morning, over 2,500 young runners aged 2 to 18 participated in a vibrant, free youth event that brought the community together.
The event kicked off at West Drive, just south of West 67th Street, near the iconic marathon finish line. Participants enjoyed a variety of races and dashes tailored to different age groups, alongside family-friendly games and activities. This initiative marks the beginning of marathon race week in New York City, with a series of events leading up to the big day.
According to NYRR, many young runners are part of the Rising New York Road Runners program, which serves an impressive 200,000 students nationwide, including 100,000 in New York City alone. This program emphasizes fitness and community engagement among youth, making events like today’s an integral part of their mission.
The week culminates on November 2, 2025, when more than 50,000 runners from around the globe will flood the streets, showcasing a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences, and abilities. The marathon is not just a race; it’s a celebration of resilience, determination, and community spirit.
As the excitement builds, the NYRR emphasizes that this youth event is just one of over 20 free youth events they host annually, reflecting their commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles among young people.
