Nathan Swanepoel Wins Silver in Urgent FIG World Gymnastics Event

UPDATE: In a thrilling display of athleticism, Nathan Swanepoel of Scotts Valley has won a silver medal for Team USA at the 31st Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) World Age Group Competitions held in Navarra Arena, Pamplona, Spain, on October 8, 2023. Competing in his first international event, Swanepoel achieved a remarkable score of 25.100 in the Men’s Double-Mini Trampoline for the 17 to 21 age group, showcasing his exceptional talent on a global stage.

This competition featured gymnastics athletes from 46 countries, highlighting the intense level of skill and competition. Swanepoel’s performance was not only a personal triumph but also a proud moment for his coaches and supporters. He expressed his joy on Instagram, stating,

“I am beyond happy with how my first World Age Group Competition went… I have so much gratitude for the opportunity to compete in Spain for the U.S.”

The event saw Canada’s Jeremy Meyer take home the gold with a score of 25.200, while Australia’s River Mallam secured the bronze with 24.900. Swanepoel’s accomplishment is a significant milestone as he continues to build his gymnastics career, currently training at North Valley Gymnastics in Phoenix while attending Arizona State University.

In addition to Swanepoel, fellow gymnast Taj Rodriguez Gleitsman from Santa Cruz also competed, taking part in three events. The Aptos High alum and current University of Utah student ranked 19th out of 87 athletes in the Individual Men’s Trampoline prelims, while teaming up with Changamire Anderson in the Men’s Synchronized Pair Trampoline, where they placed 15th out of 33 teams in the prelims.
