Mummers Parade String Band Competition Suspended Amid High Winds

URGENT UPDATE: The Philadelphia String Band Association has just announced the suspension of the String Band competition at the annual Mummers Parade due to escalating safety concerns from high winds. Officials reported sustained winds of 30 mph and incidents of wind damage during set-up, leading to this immediate decision to prioritize performer safety.

Despite this suspension, the vibrant String Bands will still march in full costume and make-up along Broad Street and in front of City Hall, performing for live audiences and broadcast platforms. However, in a significant change, they will be parading without props, ensuring the safety of all participants while still providing a spectacle for fans.

Organizers emphasized that the safety of performers is the top priority. The times and order of the march will remain unchanged, allowing fans to still enjoy the Mummers’ tradition, albeit in a modified format.

Details regarding a rescheduled judged competition will be announced once finalized, keeping avid followers of the Mummers Parade informed. This decision underscores the commitment to maintaining safety during one of Philadelphia’s most cherished events.
