UPDATE: Mary Ann (Godfrey) Allar has passed away peacefully at the age of 82, surrounded by her loving family on October 2, 2025. The news has left many heartbroken as they remember her warmth and generosity.
Born in Duluth, MN, Mary Ann was widely known for her beautiful handmade quilts, which she lovingly gifted to friends and family. She spent her happiest years in San Antonio, TX, where she cultivated strong friendships and embraced the sunshine.
Mary Ann’s passion for quilting was matched only by her love for playing Bingo, watching game shows, and her cherished dogs, Skipper and Maggie. Her legacy is honored by her surviving siblings: Alice (Daryle) Thompson, Michael Godfrey, and Julie Godfrey, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and the special Quinnell children.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Allar, along with her parents, William and Clara Godfrey, and several siblings. As per her wishes, a graveside blessing will be held at Oneota Cemetery in Duluth on November 10, 2025, at 10:30 AM. Her remains will be divided, with part remaining in Duluth and the rest laid to rest with her husband at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Spooner, WI, on October 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
