BREAKING: Maria T. Wierzbowski, aged 83, has passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on November 17, 2025. The beloved mother and grandmother leaves behind a legacy of creativity, passion, and a deep commitment to family.
Born on June 11, 1942, in Hamburg, Germany, Maria’s early years in Wieprz, Poland, shaped her industrious spirit. In 1968, she emigrated to the United States, where she quickly established herself as a master seamstress, showcasing her creativity in every stitch. Maria later worked at General Electric Research and Development, contributing her skills as a cleaner while also pursuing her passion for nursing.
Maria’s dedication to her family was unparalleled. Known for her love of the outdoors, she found joy in maintaining her garden and creating beautiful wreaths and quilts that served as heartfelt gifts for her loved ones. Her home was a sanctuary filled with laughter, dancing to polka music, and sharing cherished stories from her Polish heritage.
She was predeceased by her husband, Zygmunt Wierzbowski, in 1993, along with her brothers, John, Eugene, and Edward Szostak. Maria is survived by her sons, Edward Wierzbowski and Adam Wierzbowski, and four grandchildren who will carry forward her vibrant spirit.
A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the chapel at Memory Gardens in Colonie, followed by interment. Friends and family are invited to honor Maria’s memory and celebrate her life.
