Katie Lin Ortmeyer Wins VSU President’s Award for Excellence

URGENT UPDATE: Katie Lin Ortmeyer of Valdosta has just been awarded the prestigious Fall 2025 President’s Award for Academic Excellence at Valdosta State University (VSU). This award recognizes outstanding graduating students in each of VSU’s six colleges, highlighting exceptional academic achievement.

Ortmeyer, who will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, will be honored during the 240th Commencement ceremony on December 13, 2025, at 5 p.m. on the Main Campus Front Lawn.

“Receiving this award feels unreal, and I am profoundly appreciative of it,” Ortmeyer stated. “My college years are even richer because of my fantastic professors, friends, and family members. This award affirms that my time here was well worth it.”

As a dedicated student, Ortmeyer has been a Georgia HOPE Scholar and a seven-time Dean’s List honoree, with an eighth recognition expected post-graduation. Her academic pursuits are complemented by her extensive community service through Northside Baptist Church, where she has taken on various roles including social media manager and graphic designer.

Ortmeyer’s commitment to service extends beyond her church. She has volunteered for mission trips in Savannah, Georgia, and Boston, Massachusetts, and served as a leader for youth camps. Her philanthropic efforts also include participation in the Night to Shine event, an initiative by the Tim Tebow Foundation that provides special needs individuals a night of fun and celebration.

Her dedication has earned her numerous scholarships, including the 2022 Colquitt EMC Scholarship and the James Eunice Legacy Scholarship, showcasing her blend of academic prowess and community commitment.

Following her graduation, Ortmeyer plans to pursue a Master of Health Science in Occupational Therapy at Augusta University’s College of Allied Health Sciences. She expressed her excitement about her future career, stating, “Ultimately, my goal is to become an occupational therapist. I truly look forward to seeing where this career takes me.”

This recognition not only highlights Ortmeyer’s achievements but also underscores the importance of resilience and community engagement in shaping future leaders. Her supportive family, including her parents, Kim and Tim Ortmeyer, and brother Jack, have played a significant role in her journey.
