UPDATE: Joyce E. Levan, a beloved resident of Maxatawny Township, has passed away at the age of 92 in her home on November 3, 2025. The news has deeply affected her family and community, as she was known for her warmth and dedication to her loved ones.
Joyce was the widow of Homer C. Levan, who died on December 21, 2000. Born in Maxatawny Township, she was the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Evelyn E. (Smith) Hummel. A longtime member of Frieden’s Church in Lenhartsville, Joyce was not only a devoted churchgoer but also a skilled sewing machine operator for local knitting mills in Leesport and Hamburg.
Her family was the heart of her life. Joyce is survived by her children: Barry L. Levan (husband of Robin Balthaser), Barbara J. Snyder (wife of Scott Snyder), Debra E. Turner (wife of Michael Turner), and Michael D. Levan (husband of Kris Krause). She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joyce’s grandchildren include: Olivia Deyser (wife of Paul), Aaron Snyder (husband of Brittaney), Kellsey Guell (wife of Benjamin), Kirkland Turner (companion of Kayla Readinger), Kyren Turner, Tyler Krause (husband of Jennifer), and Brandon Krause, in addition to six great-grandchildren.
Joyce was also predeceased by her son, Daryl H. Levan, who passed on March 14, 2020, and grandson Zachary Snyder. Her passing leaves a profound void in the lives of her family, especially among her surviving sister, Shirlene Loeb of Lenhartsville.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., located at 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM prior to the service. Burial will take place at Frieden’s Cemetery in Lenhartsville.
