Born in Duluth, Minnesota, John was a graduate of East High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). He was known for his commitment to community service as an active member of the Rotary Club and his professional role at Great Lakes Office Solutions.
John is survived by his mother, Peg Pickar, along with his siblings: Christine Beck, Bruce (Amber) Pickar, and Andrew (Kate) Pickar. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including Joshua (Desiree) Butler and Josie Pickar.
His life was filled with joy, faith, and passion for the outdoors. John loved snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing, especially relishing the time spent with friends during fishing openers. He held a special place in his heart for his time at the deer shack in Finland, where he enjoyed moments of reflection and camaraderie.
John was also an avid collector of old beer cans and memorabilia, proudly associated with the Beer Can Collectors of America. His warm personality and humor made him a friend to many, as he could light up any room he entered. Friends and family recall his generosity and the genuine care he showed to everyone he met.
