BREAKING NEWS: Joan M. Hakun, aged 84, of Allentown, has passed away on November 9, 2025, at the Luther Crest Healthcare Center in South Whitehall Township. Her husband, George Hakun III, and family mourn her loss after 63 years of marriage.
Hakun was not just a devoted wife, but also a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, celebrated for her warm spirit and dedication to family. She is survived by her son, Mark G. Hakun (Maurann), of Gambrills, MD, and grandchildren, including Monica Burnett (Jeff) of Layton, UT, and Marcella Hakun of Gambrills, MD. She is also remembered by her great-granddaughter, Emma Burnett.
Joan’s extensive background includes a career as a homemaker and a former Registered Nurse, having graduated from Reading High School, the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, and Kutztown University. She was an active member of the community, previously serving as a Lector at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Allentown and participating in the Allentown Garden Club.
In a heartfelt tribute, her family reflects on her passions for travel, literature, and classical music. Joan was preceded in death by her son, Andrew G. Hakun, and is survived by her daughter-in-law, Cathy Hakun, along with her grandchildren, Steven and Patrick Hakun, both of Woodbine, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, located at 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown, PA 18103. A calling hour is scheduled for the same day from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. in the church.
