Indiana Launches $10,000 Scholarships for Future Educators

URGENT UPDATE: Indiana is ramping up support for aspiring teachers with the newly announced Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, which is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 academic year. This initiative provides $10,000 per year for up to four years to high school seniors and college students dedicated to teaching in Indiana schools after graduation.

The announcement was made by State Representatives Jack Jordan (R-Bremen) and Jake Teshka (R-North Liberty) earlier today, emphasizing the state’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent. “We want the very best teachers growing the minds of young Hoosiers, and that means keeping them in the state,” Jordan stated, highlighting the urgent need for skilled educators.

Applications are now open through the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, with a January 31, 2024 deadline approaching fast. This scholarship targets high-achieving students, specifically those in the top 20% of their class or those with outstanding standardized test scores.

The scholarship program, which began in 2016, recently saw a significant enhancement in 2023 when the award amount increased from $7,500 to $10,000. Additionally, the previous cap of 200 recipients per year has been removed, allowing more students to benefit. Last year, nearly 300 recipients were awarded scholarships, with over 1,000 students applying—a clear sign of the program’s growing popularity.

Teshka, who serves on the House Education Committee, praised the scholarship’s impact on the teaching profession in Indiana. “This scholarship helps identify and award some of our brightest and most talented students, encouraging them to invest their talents in Indiana and in educating the next generation,” he emphasized. This statement underscores the initiative’s potential to reshape the educational landscape in the state.

With the deadline just around the corner, students looking to make a difference in Indiana’s classrooms are urged to take action now. The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship promises not just financial support, but also a chance to contribute to the future of education in Indiana.
