The event, held on July 25, 2023, welcomed attendees with live music, delicious themed treats, and a heartwarming celebration of local talent.

The evening kicked off with a lively reception, where attendees enjoyed live performances of Neil Diamond classics by local musician Kevin Kamin and sampled complimentary Kopp’s “Song Sung Blueberry” frozen custard. “I’ve been playing it all my life, so I’m super excited to do this for the opening of the show,” Kamin expressed, setting an upbeat tone for the event.

“Song Sung Blue” tells the inspiring story of a Milwaukee couple who dedicated their lives to performing Neil Diamond tribute music. For many fans, the screening was a nostalgic journey back to cherished memories. “I saw Lightning and Thunder as a little girl at the state fair, and it was the first cassette I bought with allowance money,” shared Jamie Hardt from Oconomowoc. “This is my childhood coming to life right here.”

The atmosphere was electric as fans mingled and connected over shared experiences while enjoying the custard and reminiscing about the music that shaped their lives. The mother-daughter duo, Elizabeth Bagley and Camille Spella, traveled from Sussex and Brookfield to join in on the celebration. “We are enjoying the music of our lives. We grew up with the music,” Bagley remarked.

At 8 p.m., the excitement peaked as Greg Marcus, CEO of Marcus Corporation, joined Jackman and Brewer on stage to welcome the audience. “It’s awesome having him here, supporting the film. And it’s an important film. It’s about Milwaukee. It’s the kind of film people should see together with other people,” Marcus stated.

Jackman, known for his infectious energy, took a moment to express his admiration for Milwaukee and its beloved frozen custard. “Oh, that Kopp’s custard,” he laughed. “You guys are incredible.
