UPDATE: A 70-year-old man has been arrested in Hilo, Hawai‘i, following a fatal parking lot altercation that occurred yesterday morning. Police confirm that the suspect, identified as Robert Bradshaw, allegedly ran over the victim after a physical confrontation, marking a significant escalation in a developing case.
The incident unfolded on Kamehameha Avenue at approximately 7:38 a.m. when officers responded to a disturbance call. Witnesses reported a violent altercation between Bradshaw and the 64-year-old victim, who was found injured at the scene. Eyewitness accounts indicate that Bradshaw was armed with a knife during the confrontation.
After the altercation, Bradshaw reportedly returned to his van and drove over the victim before attempting to flee the scene. Thanks to a swift police response, law enforcement located his white van nearby, leading to his arrest. Bradshaw sustained injuries during the incident and was treated prior to being booked into the East Hawai‘i Detention Facility.
The victim was rushed to Hilo Benioff Medical Center but tragically succumbed to his injuries, being pronounced dead at 9:03 a.m.. Authorities are currently in the process of confirming the victim’s identity and notifying family members. An autopsy is scheduled for next week to determine the official cause of death.
Initially classified as attempted murder, the case has now escalated to second-degree murder following the victim’s death. Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section are actively pursuing the investigation.
