UPDATE: Urgent disturbances erupted in Navy Yard on October 31, 2023, as hundreds of juveniles gathered near the Navy Yard Metro Station, leading to multiple arrests and a heightened police presence. What began as a festive Halloween night spiraled into chaos around 8 p.m. when fights broke out, prompting significant disruptions to traffic and safety.
The situation escalated quickly, compelling a rapid response from law enforcement agencies, including the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), U.S. Capitol Police, Metro Transit Police, the National Guard, and a Federal Task Force. Officers worked diligently to disperse the crowd, which was successfully cleared by 11 p.m., ensuring the safety of the surrounding community.
Throughout the night, police maintained a robust presence to deter any further incidents. Despite the turmoil in Navy Yard, other Halloween festivities across Washington, D.C., proceeded without issues, as reported by the MPD.
In total, five individuals were arrested, including an 18-year-old from Maryland, charged with carrying a prohibited weapon. Additionally, two 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old faced various charges, including failure to obey, resisting arrest, public marijuana consumption, and affray. One police sergeant sustained minor injuries during the events and received treatment from DC Fire and EMS. In light of the disturbances, Chief of Police Pamela A.
