UPDATE: The highly anticipated restaurant, The Borough, officially opened its doors in Downingtown on October 15, 2023, and the excitement among diners is palpable. This new two-level restaurant and entertainment venue, located at 149 E Lancaster Avenue, promises to redefine the local dining scene with its unique blend of offerings.
At the grand opening, patrons were greeted with smiles and an electric atmosphere, signaling that The Borough is set to be a significant success. Owned by partners Keith Critchley and JT O’Brien, the venue features a modern sports bar on the first level and an upscale dining experience above, making it a versatile destination for all.
The Borough is aiming to stand out, described by O’Brien as a fusion of “Miami meets Nashville.” With neon signs, a selfie wall, and a photo booth for social media sharing, the venue is designed for fun and engagement. The modern sports bar offers elevated pub-style fare and features over 20 craft beer taps, perfect for catching a game or enjoying dinner with friends.
Upstairs, guests can expect a vibrant dining atmosphere filled with lush indoor trees and water features, along with a concert hall for live music. Offering a full-service restaurant, the upstairs area features a signature sushi menu and a cocktail and wine program tailored for intimate dinners and social events.
A 30-40 seat outdoor patio connects seamlessly to the first level, enhancing the relaxed, beach-inspired vibe. This outdoor space addresses a growing demand for al fresco dining options in Downingtown, allowing guests to enjoy food, drinks, and live entertainment in a welcoming environment.
Critchley emphasized the venue’s commitment to creating a unique concept, stating, “We set out to create something dynamic and unexpected, built entirely around the guest experience.” He added, “Seeing that vision come to life has been incredibly rewarding.”
In addition to daily dining, The Borough will host a mix of entertainment events, including live musical acts, athlete meet-and-greets, and family-friendly gatherings. The upstairs area is also available for private events, offering new opportunities for celebrations and corporate rentals in Downingtown.
O’Brien highlighted the goal of creating a versatile destination that local residents will embrace, saying, “We want people to experience it for how it best resonates with them.” Whether it’s a place to watch a game, enjoy brunch, or have a girls’ night out, The Borough aims to be that special spot for everyone.
The Borough is open daily, with lunch and dinner served from 11 AM to 11 PM Sunday through Thursday, and 11 AM to 12 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. The bar will be open until 12 AM on weekdays and 1 AM on weekends. Starting in just a few weeks, brunch will be available on Saturdays and Sundays, beginning at 10 AM.
The restaurant has already hired over 150 employees, contributing to the local economy while emphasizing partnerships with regional farms and suppliers for seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.
