Freeze Warning Issued for North Texas as Temperatures Plummet

URGENT UPDATE: A Freeze Warning is now in effect for nearly all of North Texas, starting at 9 p.m. Sunday and lasting until 9 a.m. Monday. This warning comes as the region braces for the coldest air of the season, with temperatures expected to drop sharply overnight.

The National Weather Service has upgraded Saturday’s Freeze Watch to a formal warning, citing the arrival of modified Arctic air. Although no precipitation is forecast, residents are urged to take immediate precautions. Protect vulnerable plants, bring pets indoors, and exercise caution by wearing multiple layers if venturing out late tonight or early Monday morning.

Winds and Temperatures Plummet
Strong northerly winds, sustained at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 30 to 35 mph, are contributing to the rapid temperature decline. Morning temperatures started in the upper 40s and low 50s but are expected to cap Sunday’s high just shy of 60 degrees for most areas. As night falls, temperatures in the immediate Metroplex are forecast to dip near or just below the freezing mark at 32 degrees. Outlying areas, such as Denton and Collin County, could see lows drop into the upper 20s.

The intense winds will persist through Monday morning, causing a significant wind chill. Most areas will feel temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s, with some spots reaching as low as the mid-20s.

Brief Chill Precedes Warm-Up
Fortunately, this cold spell is expected to be short-lived. High pressure moving in from the west is projected to shift winds to a southerly flow by Tuesday, driving temperatures back up. Highs are forecast to rebound into the mid to upper 70s and even the low 80s by the end of the week and into the weekend.

Residents should stay informed as meteorologists predict a low chance of showers and thunderstorms returning next weekend. With the current freeze warning in effect, it is crucial for residents to prepare immediately to safeguard against the expected chill.

Stay tuned for more updates as this situation develops and ensure you take the necessary precautions to stay warm and safe.
