BREAKING: Four teenage boys from Grand Forks have been arrested for a shocking spree of car thefts, just confirmed by local authorities. The arrests took place on November 13, 1958, after two boys, aged 13, turned themselves in to the Grand Forks police around 8:30 p.m.
This incident has sent ripples through the community, as these boys are implicated in a series of car thefts involving multiple vehicles. The situation escalated last week when authorities reported that 13 boys were connected to several car thefts in the area.
Reporting from the scene, Juvenile Officer Duane Johnson revealed that the two boys in custody confessed to stealing at least four cars since Monday night. They reportedly targeted vehicles with keys left inside, driving them for about 15 minutes before abandoning them.
The remaining two boys, one aged 13 and the other 14, were held overnight in the East Grand Forks city jail after their attempt to escape from a stolen car that overturned approximately 10 miles east of the city. The car belonged to Jack St. Lawrence, who reported it stolen from 1st St. S. E. near the Jerome Dunlevy Ready-Mix Plant.
Witnesses, including a school bus driver, reported seeing the stolen vehicle veer off the road, prompting a swift response from St. Lawrence and local farmers who helped apprehend the fleeing boys. The damaged car further highlights the reckless behavior displayed by the teenagers, leaving the community in shock.
Authorities are continuing their investigation as the boys await proceedings in Juvenile Court. This incident raises serious questions about youth behavior and community safety in Grand Forks.
