Final Supermoon of 2025: Don’t Miss the Beaver Moon Tonight!

UPDATE: The final supermoon of 2025, known as the Beaver Moon, will light up the skies over North Texas tonight, November 5, 2025, just after sunset at 5:30 p.m. Don’t miss this rare celestial event that promises to be a stunning sight!

As the Beaver Moon rises, it will appear larger and brighter than usual, thanks to the ‘moon illusion.’ This phenomenon occurs when the moon is just above the horizon, creating an optical effect that makes it look up to 14% larger and 30% brighter. Be prepared for a breathtaking view as it may emit a striking orange hue.

Tonight’s moon is especially significant as it marks the time of year when beavers begin to prepare for winter, establishing their lodges and storing food. Historically, this season also coincided with the fur trade in North America, when trappers sought beavers for their thick winter pelts.

To catch the best view, head east around sunset, and if possible, escape the city lights for an enhanced experience. As McKenna Dowd, a coordinator at the University of Texas at Arlington Planetarium, noted, “For as long as humans have been around, there has been a ton of interest in space. We all share the same sky, sun, and moon.”

The Beaver Moon is not just a visual spectacle; it’s an opportunity to connect with the wonders of nature. Gather your friends and family, and step outside to witness this awe-inspiring event that won’t come around again until next year!
