URGENT UPDATE: A tragic head-on collision claimed the life of a 55-year-old woman in western Minnesota on Saturday, November 1, 2023. Sandra Marie Olson of Fergus Falls was driving her 2012 Toyota 4Runner when the incident occurred at approximately 11:04 a.m. on Minnesota Highway 210.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Olson’s vehicle drifted into the westbound lane while navigating a curve, colliding head-on with a 1990 Peterbilt truck driven by John Floyd Mayfield, a 62-year-old resident of Perham. Tragically, Olson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities reported that Mayfield escaped the crash uninjured. The collision took place in Tordenskjold Township, located approximately 13 miles east of Fergus Falls. Emergency response teams, including the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Ringdahl Ambulance, and Underwood Fire Department, quickly arrived at the scene.
This devastating incident highlights the critical importance of wearing seat belts, as they significantly reduce the risk of fatal injuries in accidents. As the investigation continues, officials are urging drivers to remain vigilant and cautious on the roads.
The community mourns the loss of Olson, a beloved resident, while the authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. In the coming days, more details are expected to emerge as the Minnesota State Patrol continues its investigation.
