URGENT UPDATE: A tragic incident unfolded in Brooklyn on October 7, 2023, as FDNY firefighter Patrick D. Brady, an 11-year veteran, died in the line of duty while responding to an “all-hands fire.” Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the heartbreaking news, emphasizing the sacrifice made by firefighters to protect the city.
Firefighter Brady was on the roof of 9407 Kings Highway near Brownsville when he suffered a medical episode and went into cardiac arrest. His colleagues immediately provided treatment before rushing him to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center. Despite their efforts, he tragically passed away.
Mayor Adams expressed profound sorrow, stating, “Firefighter Patrick Brady gave his life protecting the city we all love; there is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening.” He extended condolences to Brady’s wife, Kara, and his family during this immensely difficult time.
FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker echoed these sentiments, declaring the entire department heartbroken over the loss. Brady had joined the FDNY in 2014, following a family tradition of service; both of his brothers, Jimmy and Brian, as well as cousins and uncles, are also FDNY firefighters.
“This family is dedicated to protecting the lives of their fellow New Yorkers,” Mayor Adams remarked, highlighting the profound legacy of service within Brady’s family.
Firefighter Brady is now the 1,163rd member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty. The last loss was Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman, who passed away on October 29, 2022, after completing a shift at the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall’s Island.
As the FDNY and the community mourn, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by first responders daily. The department will likely hold a memorial service to honor Brady’s sacrifice, and further details are expected to be announced soon.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the FDNY and city officials come together to remember a hero who dedicated his life to serving others.
