Elon Musk’s Neuralink to Launch High-Volume Brain Chip Production

BREAKING: Elon Musk’s Neuralink is set to launch high-volume production of its revolutionary brain chip implants in 2026. In a recent post on X, Musk revealed plans to automate the surgical procedure for implanting these devices, promising a major leap in accessibility for patients with severe neurological conditions.

Neuralink, co-founded by Musk in 2016, aims to transform the lives of individuals suffering from paralysis, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s by enabling direct communication with computers through implanted microchips. The company announced that it will begin mass production of these brain-computer interface devices this year, a move that could change the landscape of neurological treatment.

Musk emphasized the significance of automating the implantation process, stating that it will “move to a streamlined, almost entirely automated surgical procedure in 2026.” This innovation means the device’s threads will be inserted through the dura—a protective membrane—without needing to remove it, a procedure Musk described as “a big deal.”

The Neuralink chip, roughly the size of a coin, features an array of ultra-thin threads, each about 20 times thinner than a human hair. Previously, the implantation required human surgeons to remove a portion of the skull, followed by a robotic arm performing the insertion. This new method could make the procedure safer and more efficient, allowing for increased patient volume.

Currently, 12 patients around the globe have received Neuralink implants, with some, like Noland Arbaugh, a quadriplegic, reporting significant improvements in their quality of life. Arbaugh noted that the implant has helped him regain independence and foster new social connections.

Musk has ambitious goals for Neuralink, suggesting that the company could have over 1,000 patients using these implants by 2026. As part of its expansion efforts, Neuralink has been actively hiring manufacturing technicians and microfabrication specialists since November 2024.
