UPDATE: Over 20 community members voiced urgent concerns during the Dillon Town Council meeting on February 3, 2023, regarding noise issues from the Dillon Amphitheater. Residents from the Lake Cliffe Condominiums, situated just 50 feet from the venue, fear potential operational changes will disrupt live performances and harm the town’s economy.
The Neighbors of the Dillon Amphitheater, a group of approximately a dozen homeowners, have been vocal since August about how sound levels vibrate their homes. They are pushing for significant changes, including lowering decibel limits and limiting back-to-back shows. A Facebook post on January 23 ignited tensions, claiming a ‘small group of second homeowners’ aimed to drastically alter amphitheater operations.
The group submitted a proposal outlining their demands, including a request to limit “high-bass, high-impact shows.” They argue that heavy-bass music creates intrusive noise, shaking windows and disrupting their lives. The proposal also suggests involving neighbors in decision-making and enforcing a 10 p.m. cutoff for shows.
At the February 3 meeting, many commenters opposed the proposed changes. They argued that banning genres of music and restricting profanity would diminish the amphitheater’s cultural significance. Dillon resident Terese Berger emphasized the need for comprehensive community input, stating, “The amphitheater is a major community asset with broad cultural and economic value.”
However, some neighbors, like Keri Dawn Solner, refuted claims that they aimed to shut down the amphitheater. Solner noted that they have consulted with an independent audio engineer to find solutions that benefit both residents and the venue.
Mayor Carolyn Skowyra addressed the concerns, expressing optimism about the upcoming presentation from Jessie Klehfoth, the town’s events and recreation director, scheduled for the February 17 work session. Skowyra reassured attendees that the council aims to reach a satisfactory agreement respecting both the neighbors’ concerns and the amphitheater’s role in the community.
As the debate intensifies, the future of the Dillon Amphitheater hangs in the balance. Community members are urged to stay informed and participate as the council navigates this critical issue affecting both residents and local culture.
Authorities confirm that the Parks, Recreation, Arts, and Cemetery Committee will play a crucial role in addressing these noise concerns, with further discussions expected in the coming weeks. As tensions rise, the importance of maintaining a vibrant community space while respecting residents’ needs has never been clearer. Stay tuned for more updates as this situation develops.
