BREAKING: David “Dave” Platt, a dedicated safety professional and beloved community member, has passed away at the age of 70 after a brief illness. He died peacefully on September 30, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of advocacy and care.
Born on June 14, 1955, in Whittier, CA, Dave’s life was marked by his commitment to family and community. He was an active participant in Scouting, Little League Baseball, and cherished family camping trips during his childhood. A proud graduate of Calhi School in 1973, Dave later obtained his degree in Anthropology from Sonoma State University in 1978.
Throughout his career, Dave was widely recognized as “The Safety Guy.” As a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), he worked tirelessly for the state of California, educating businesses on workplace safety practices to protect employees from harm. His dedication to safety left a profound impact on countless lives.
In his personal life, Dave married Ailene Platt and welcomed a daughter, Carolanne Baker. After years in the Santa Cruz area, he relocated to the Pacific Northwest, settling in Sequim, WA, in 2019, where he enjoyed photography, fishing, and music.
Dave is survived by his wife, Merribeth Platt, whom he married in 2006, and a large extended family, including three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and three nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marian Platt.
