Cedar Park’s Joy Udoye Named Central Texas Volleyball Player of Year

UPDATE: Joy Udoye of Cedar Park has been recognized as the 2025 Central Texas Volleyball Player of the Year, solidifying her reputation as a standout athlete just months before her high school graduation. Despite being only a senior, Udoye’s performance this fall has drawn comparisons to collegiate-level players, showcasing her remarkable talent and dedication.

The Cedar Park Timberwolves, under Udoye’s leadership, clinched the Class 5A Division II state title with an impressive overall record of 39-12. Udoye’s remarkable stats include 581 kills, 364 digs, 34 aces, and 30 blocks. Her contributions were pivotal in leading the team to victory and earning her the top spot on the American-Statesman’s 2025 All-Central Texas Volleyball Team.

Udoye, who has already signed to play for Stanford, expressed her excitement about the recognition. “Being named Central Texas’ player of the year is the cherry on top of an impressive career,” she stated. This accolade complements her previous achievements, including being a two-time first-team All-Central Texas selection.

Cedar Park’s head coach, Lori McLaughlin, praised Udoye’s performance this season, stating, “This was the best version of Joy that I witnessed. She peaked at the right time as a senior.” McLaughlin noted that Udoye’s commitment and training over the past four years have culminated in this standout season, which has set her apart in an area filled with talented players.

As a six-rotation specialist, Udoye excelled in multiple facets of the game, never leaving the court. Her height, impressive vertical leap, and athleticism made her a formidable opponent for any defense. While her total numbers this season were slightly lower than last year, she maintained an average of over four kills per set and a hitting percentage of 26.12025 Central Texas Volleyball Player of the Year award is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting future in sports.
